Import from TikTok

Articles in this section

TikTok is full of amazing recipe content, but saving a recipe from a short video can be frustrating — you’d normally have to rewatch, pause, and screenshot every step. Cookonut makes it easy to capture TikTok recipes in one tap.

How to Import from TikTok

Share the video straight from TikTok to Cookonut.

Step 1

tap Send

Step 2

tap More

Step 3

tap Cookonut

  1. Open the TikTok video with the recipe
  2. Tap the share arrow on the right side of the video
  3. Find and tap Cookonut in the share options
  4. Cookonut opens with the link ready — tap Import

The screenshots above show iOS. On Android the flow is the same through the share menu — use the iOS and Android tabs at the top for device-specific steps.

If the video caption doesn’t contain the recipe itself but links to a recipe website, Cookonut follows that link and extracts the recipe from the linked page.

What Cookonut Extracts

Cookonut analyzes the TikTok video’s available content to build a structured recipe. Depending on what the creator included, you’ll get some or all of:

  • Recipe title based on the video description
  • Ingredients mentioned in the video or caption
  • Steps from on-screen text or the description
  • A thumbnail image from the video

Tips for Better TikTok Imports

  • Videos with recipe text in the caption produce the best results. Creators who list full ingredients and steps in their description are a goldmine.
  • On-screen text overlays in the video help Cookonut extract more details.
  • Very short “aesthetic” cooking videos with no written recipe may produce incomplete imports. In these cases, you’ll want to fill in the gaps manually.

Handling Incomplete Imports

TikTok recipes are often informal — a creator might say “a splash of olive oil” or “season to taste” without exact measurements. After import:

  1. Review the ingredients list and add specific quantities where needed
  2. Check the instructions — you may want to expand brief steps into clearer directions
  3. Add prep time, cook time, and servings if they weren’t included
  4. Assign helpful tags so you can find the recipe later

Think of the TikTok import as a great starting point that saves you from retyping everything from scratch.

Alternative Approach

If a TikTok import doesn’t capture everything you need, try this:

  1. Watch the video and note the ingredients and steps
  2. Use the Paste Text or Voice Dictation import method to enter the recipe in your own words
  3. This can sometimes be faster than editing an incomplete import

Credit Usage

Each TikTok import uses 1 credit from your monthly pool. Free plan users get 10 credits per month; Premium users have unlimited imports.

After Saving

Once saved, your TikTok recipe lives in your collection just like any other recipe. You can:

  • Add it to a cookbook
  • Include it in your meal plan
  • Scale the servings
  • Enter cooking mode for step-by-step guidance
  • Share it or export it as a PDF

No more rewatching videos every time you want to make that dish again!
